Perfect Derma FAQ's

The Perfect Derma Peel is an amazing chemical peel for patients of all skin types. However, not all patients are able to advantage of this chemical peel. The contraindications for this chemical peel are of follows:

• Patients who are pregnant or breast feeding
• Patients with an allergy to any peel ingredient listed above, or to aspirin
• Patients who have used Accutane within the past 4 months
• Patients who have open wounds, sunburn, infected skin, cold sores or lesions. Patients with a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) may be given an antiviral 3 days prior to the peel.
• Patients who have recently had treatments such as waxing, electrolysis or chemical exfoliants
• Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy
• Patients with a history of an autoimmune disease or any condition that may weaken the immune system

How to prepare for your treatment:

• Discontinue Retinols/Tretinoins, AHA or BHA (chemical exfoliants) and prescription topicals 3-5 days prior to treatment. 
• Ensure you do not have any active cold sores. If you are prone to them, we will prescribe you a prophylactic to ensure you do not get an outbreak to be taken 1-3 days prior to treatment.
• No active dermatitis or open lesions in the area to be treated,
• Do not wax or use depilatory creams on treated area 5-7 days prior to treatment. 
• Wear sunscreen daily to prevent sunburn

What to expect after your Perfect Derma Peel:

• Your skin will have a yellow/orange hue immediately after treatment lasting until your first cleanse.
• Skin may feel hot/warm/tingly for 1-6 hours post treatment. 
• Skin might feel itchy in the first 24-48 hours, apply the post peel moisturizer or hydrocortisone over the counter if needed. Optional: take an antihistamine for extreme itchiness. 

Post care instructions:

• The peel solution should remain on the skin for at least 6-12 hours, you may leave it on overnight.
• No sweating or excessive heat (sauna, steam room, steam shower, hot yoga, etc) for 24-48 hours.
• Avoid applying makeup until the next day, if needed mineral makeup may be applied same day.
• The Perfect Derma Moisturizer may be used after 6 hours if: Skin feels excessively irritated or if recommended by your clinician. 
• Day 2 AM (the day after your peel treatment):
  
  • 1. Cleanse face with gentle face wash and lukewarm water 2. Gently pat skin dry with soft towel (do not rub or scrub) 3. Thoroughly apply the 1st Post-Peel Towelette to the treated area (avoid eyes, let dry for 15-30 minutes before next step) 4. Apply Mineral Sunscreen 5. Makeup may be worn if desired.
• Day 2 PM:
  
  • 1. Cleanse face with gentle face wash and lukewarm water 2. Gently pat skin dry with soft towel. (do not rub or scrub) 3. Thoroughly apply the 2nd Post-Peel Towelette to the treated area, leave on overnight.
• Days 3-7 AM & PM:
  
  • 1. Cleanse face with gentle face wash and lukewarm water 2. Gently pat skin dry with soft towel (do not rub or scrub) 3. Apply perfect derma moisturizer (may reapply throughout the day as much as needed for dryness, peeling and/or itching) 4. Sunscreen (AM only) 
• Peeling generally begins on day 3 (48 hours after the peel application). DO NOT rub, pick or pull on the peeling skin, let the peeling occur naturally. Rubbing, picking or pulling may cause scarring or hyperpigmentation. 
• If you are still peeling/sloughing after a week, continue with the gentle face wash and perfect derma moisturizer twice a day.
