Pre-Treatment Instructions
1. Avoid Sun Exposure:
• Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanners for at least 2 weeks before the treatment.
• Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily.
2. Stop Active Ingredients:
• Discontinue use of retinol, AHAs/BHAs, vitamin C serums, and other exfoliating or irritating skincare products 5-7 days before treatment.
3. Medications:
• Avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) and supplements like fish oil, ginkgo biloba, and vitamin E for at least 3-5 days before treatment, if possible, to minimize bruising. Always consult your doctor first.
4. No Skin Treatments:
• Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling for 4 weeks before Tixel treatment.
• Refrain from waxing, threading, or using hair removal creams on the area being treated for 1 week prior.
5. Clean Skin:
• Arrive at your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face.
• Avoid applying moisturizer or other products on the day of treatment.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Immediately After Treatment
1. Expect Mild Redness and Sensitivity:
• Redness, warmth, and slight swelling are normal and should subside within 24-48 hours. For stronger settings, redness may last up to 5-7 days.
2. No Touching:
• Avoid touching, picking, or scratching the treated area to prevent infection.
First 24 Hours
1. Minimal Products:
• Use only the recommended soothing creams (e.g., hyaluronic acid, Cicaplast, or Aquaphor) as advised by your practitioner.
• Avoid makeup, sunscreen, or other skincare products unless approved.
2. Gentle Cleansing:
• Cleanse the skin gently with lukewarm water and a mild, non-fragranced cleanser.
3. Avoid Heat:
• Refrain from hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms to prevent irritation.
(Make sure to change your pillowcase to a clean one.)
48 Hours to 7 Days
1. Hydrate and Moisturize:
• Apply a gentle moisturizer or healing balm multiple times a day to keep the skin hydrated.
2. Avoid Active Ingredients:
• Do not use retinol, acids (AHA/BHA), vitamin C, or exfoliants until your skin has fully healed (typically 7-10 days).
3. Sun Protection:
• Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
4. No Makeup:
• Avoid makeup for at least 48 hours or until redness has subsided. For stronger treatments, wait until scabs (if any) have fallen off naturally.
5. No Swimming or Intense Workouts:
• Avoid activities that expose your skin to sweat, chlorine, or excessive heat for at least 3-5 days.
Long-Term Care
1. Skin Peeling/Flaking:
• Mild peeling or flaking may occur. Allow this to happen naturally—do not scrub or pick at your skin.
2. Follow-Up Treatments:
• Follow the treatment plan recommended by your provider (typically 2-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart).
3. Maintain Results:
• Use medical-grade skincare products with collagen-boosting and hydrating ingredients to maintain results.
When to Contact Your Provider
• If you experience excessive redness, swelling, blistering, or signs of infection (e.g., pus, severe pain, fever), contact your practitioner immediately.
The Tixel is not a laser, but a device that uses thermal energy to remodel and improve skin. The effect of the Tixel treatment on the skin is similar to fractional dioxide laser, but with less recovery time.
Tixel utilises a gold-plated metallic tip that is heated to 400 degrees celsius within a handpiece. This tip has 81 pyramid-shaped spikes pressed momentarily onto the skin with a highly accurate linear motor within the handpiece. This delivers short bursts of heat energy onto the outer layers of the skin without damaging the deeper skin levels. This heat energy stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin.
The tip measures 1 x 1cm, and the treatment involves systematically applying this tip to the whole face. Adjustments can be made to the depth of penetration into the skin and the duration of the tip application.
The channels formed by the Tixel on the skin can also immediately be used to deliver growth factors, tretinoin (prescription strength vitamin A) or lightening agents, increasing their absorption rates.
The heated pyramid-shaped spikes on the tip creates micro-channels or craters in the skin through evaporation of skin. This induces new collagen formation or neo-collagenesis by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process.
The treatment is fractional, that is, heat is applied in specific, targeted areas with healthy untreated skin in between. This helps reduce healing times and complications in comparison to treating all the skin at once. This process helps to improve general skin quality, wrinkles, skin texture, and can also improve acne scarring.
